LIRÉ (LIving REpository) is a Web based collaborative information and document management system. It is a living repository because its users are in charge, and they are continually changing it. LIRÉ enables its users to share, manage, and reuse knowledge.
LIRÉ was developed for users working in a dynamic project environment with open ended work practices. All users can add documents and information to LIRÉ. They can also organize, share, and disseminate documents and information using the system.
LIRÉ users organize their view of the repository in the document directory. With LIRÉ's access control tools users can determine who can see, read, and make changes to their documents. When user's want to know when changes are occurring to shared documents or folders they can subscribe to LIRÉ's Alerts system to be informed as changes occur.
In LIRÉ users can find information by browsing through the
document directory. They can follow relationship links to other documents.
LIRÉ also supports searching over document
attributes (who created it, when it was created, words in the title and/or
abstract, etc.) and even over the entire textual content of the document.
With the References function users can indicate that one or more other documents are related to this one and spell out the reasons. Notes on documents can be kept in the system using Annotations. References and annotations can be made by any user with access privileges to a document.
We designed LIRÉ to
be flexible in meeting user needs and we plan to add functionality to
further support users in they way that they work. Future functionality
will include a personalized view of the document directory and multiple folder listings.
LIRÉ was created by our research group over the last two years based on the studies of research and development work practices in a number of firms. We continue our research in the usability and group interactions that arise in the use of these systems for group work.
